Went with a group of 8 and had a delightful experience. We all ordered drinks and a steak or lamb dinner. Food was surprisingly good! The included salads were delicious, much better than normal. Service was great. The owner turned off the tv next to our table upon request. A classic steakhouse. Loved it.

This place continues to go down hill. Danny is just a greedy Greek. Hasn't been good in years. The worst fish fry around.

I can see how certain people would find this place nostalgic, After all, there are lots of places in the Fox Valley that are throwbacks to a bygone day when lead paint tasted delicious and everyone's toilets flushed directly into the river. This place, on the other hand, just feels old. It's like the owners are wringing every last cent out of it before lighting it on fire and claiming the insurance money. The food was actually pretty good, as was the service. The bar was fairly limited but I wasn't exactly expecting Lagunitas and Belle Glos when I walked in. So, while I wasn't running out the door, I probably won't be back. All the other comments about this place being full of bluehairs are absolutely true... and it's probably good they don't know what Yelp is... or credit cards...

My family and I love this place. The food here is very old school supper club style and by that I mean very heavy but very good. The service is great the cocktails are strong and food is awesome, try the duck! This is Must try little gem in mchenry county! Don't let the appearance fool you!

We are completely done here! A month ago I took my mother here with my family and the ATM was out of cash. I walked across the street to another place that this owner runs and it ony had $40 dollars in it. I had to get in my car and drive to a bank down the street just to get cash for this place. Well we went again last week and guess what - ATM was out of cash again. We're banning both places now which is probably a good thing because the owner does not give a damn about up-keep and cleanliness.

Could be the worst restaurant in McHenry County! It's hard for me to say this since it was one my grandparent's favorite Friday night spots, but it's the sad truth. It was my grandfather's 84th Bday, so we all met here for a large family get together dinner. We sat in the bar (sad excuse at that) area. We had a waitress that was most likely older than my said grandfather. My initial thoughts were that we'd be greeted by a sweet friendly Q-tip, but instead she was the crankiest lady! Just asking for a drink seemed to be an annoyance to her. The fish, fries & coleslaw were all served family style (large dishes to pass). You'd think this would have eased some of the stress our dear ole waitress was dealing with, but that wasn't the case. Those that ordered burgers all ordered med. They were all served crisp on the outside & raw on the inside. The best part of my meal, sadly, were the laughs we had at our table over the bones that got wedged in my mom and my throat. I will not be coming back here again. Ever. I promise this time. I vow to allow no Birthday party to ever change that!

Like going to Dear Old Aunt Edna's for Thursday night dinner. A traditional menu of steaks, seafood and lasagna, plus daily specials (Fried Chix on Wed).. The dining room was tired and well-worn - the decor and the staff and the diners. My waitress was attentive and sweet. The adjacent bar looked a little livelier -- mostly regulars that seemed to know each other. I had a giant portion of chopped sirloin, with salad and sides, that was just Meh on taste. Go for comfort - plenty of simple food and decent people. Take your parents or grandparents or your children. Cash only. No credit cards.

Had dinner here last night. Great tunes spinning on the juke box, great wait staff bringing food and drinks, great bunch of "oldies" hanging out at the bar.

A blast from the up north past. Went on a Saturday night and had their prime rib and special fish with some friends. Sat at the bar for a few minutes and were seated. Service and overall was a good time, and we did have the oldest waitress, but see was pleasant that night. Don't expect too much and you won't be disapointed.

Don't waste your time on useless calories, a dirty dining room, and limited menu. I was also lured here for the fish fry - this place has been around forever and is packed on Friday nights. The fish was decent, what you would expect for fried fish. It came with a mayonaisse drenched pile of plain cabbage cole slaw, it was disgusting and served in a small overflowing sloppy bowl. No substitutions on the coleslaw. When asked if they serve killians, leinie's or bass ale beer, they don't. Their wine selection is all boxed wine - how old is this stuff? Their salads are plain 'ol iceberg lettuce. The answer to every question we asked about the menu was "No" or "No." No substitutions, no beer selection, no wine selection, no healthier salad selections.

Don't come here to expect a young crowd.. People say Friday nights are booming. Which they are. It's just with senior citizens. There's nothing wrong with this I just feel people get the wrong idea, and expect something more. And I swear, me and my friends have all witnessed someone die right before our eyes while we're eating.. I can tell you that it is not very appetizing to see the paramedics trying to revive someone! But overall the food and service is alright.

My husband and I had driven past this place many times and it is always packed so we decided to give it a try. I think we were the youngest couple in there (crowd definitely was 50+). The menu was quite small and not anything to write home about. I ordered the broiled scrod and my husband ordered the fish fry. The scrod was good but the fish fry left something to be desired. Not a place I would go back to unless I was dining with my grandparents. Prices were good and the food was decent just don't expect anything fancy.

We've lived in the area almost 10 years, but hadn't been here yet (kids too small etc). Went on Wed for all you can eat fried chicken. I thought it was really good and not too salty. My girls both ordered salads and enjoyed them also. I would definitely go back with the family and try it again. Good food for a good price. BTW the staff are very friendly and attentive.

yes we used to like it and we thought it was just us (that had a problem with the OLD BITTER RUDE WAITRESS) we used to love the fish fry but again the service EVERY TIME was terrible. Yes it is dated and yes the owner is greek and thinks there is nothing wrong with rude dated decor but seriously when all the old bitties are gone maybe we shall return

What's wrong with all these people with the 1 star reviews? I am a veteran restaurant reviewer and this place offers pretty good food, especially the Fri nite fish fry and the Saturday duck. True, this is a no frills place (just go for the food) and inexplicably they do not take credit cards nor reservations. If the fish fry was no good as some of the reviewers claim, how come it is always packed on Fri nite and 75% of the diners order the fish fry? If you haven't tried VB go there some Fri or Sat and have a pretty good fish fry or a crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside duck.

I go here all the time. A couple times a week, generally. It's cheap, the food is pretty good, and the folks in the lounge are generally pretty fun and lively. Like someone wrote earlier, if you want violins and $30 spaghetti, this isn't the place.

We've been here several times and it was always OK, like a Wisconsin supper club. But tonight my husband got a spoiled piece if fish. It was Nasty! We told the server and she did offer to get him something else but he declined. She left the food in front of him and kept it on the bill. I had to search her out and ask her to remove it from the bill. She was dumbfounded and the owner was pissed. He did not even come over to our table to check up on us. There were six of us tonight and none of us will ever go back. If they took it off our bill and the owner actually gave a hoot we would of gone back. But after watching his reaction, never! Nothing worse than a honey badger owning a restaurant serving scraps!

The 1 star reviews probably love McDonalds. Their loss, our gain. The VB is good quality at very reasonable prices. There is not a bad daily special, the prime rib is great, and the fish is wonderful. What's not to like? If you're looking for atmosphere, don't come to the VB, but if you're looking for good food, it's the place to be.

We're regulars at "the Bleu" so there is an obvious bias in our comments. And yes, we are of the so called "older generation". But that doesn't mean we don't view eateries with any less of a measure of quality. To us - dining out is more than the meal. It's the total experience from having a cocktail at the bar to being served a simple yet good meal. There are no frills at the Villa Bleu. But you will experience a good and practical meal at a reasonable cost. Fish fry is always good. My favorite is the rack of lamb. Excellent! My wife's favorites include the ribs and the baked chicken on Sunday night. We both like the filet a lot too.

This place is weird. We were lured here by tales of the "best fish fry" in the area. The exterior has always creeped me out a bit, but I figured we'd give it a try. It was just downright weird. A lot of regulars...An older crowd...Not the best fish fry...And they DON'T TAKE CREDIT CARDS! Cash or check only! Who accepts personal checks but not credit cards? Just too weird for a second visit...

I have lived in the Fox River Valley since I was a young boy and I suppose that I fall into the "blue hair" generation. As a rule, we can appreciate good value, good food and a fair price. I find all of these at Villa Bleu whenever I visit. I have never had a request denied and the staff has always been attentive to my needs and desires. Tuesdays feature a traditional Bohemian dinner reflecting Fox River Grove's ethnic roots and the pork roast, sauerkraut (with caraway seeds) and dumplings is delicious, reasonably priced and a good value. My wife usually brings half home for lunch the next day. It is the day we usually think of visiting, but I had to switch to Thursday the last time I went because that's the BBQ rib special night. Is the decor dated? Yes, but I've not had any issues with cleanliness. If you want to go to a place with violins and 30.00 spaghetti, feel free it's your money. If you like good simple food at fair prices, give Villa Bleu a try.
